There were two new releases from Swarovski announced at this year’s IWA trade show in March 2018:
The first is a telescopic sight, the Z8i 0.75-6×20, primarily designed for close range driven or dangerous game hunting, with a small degree of ‘negative magnification’ giving the ultimate in wide-angle viewing for instant target acquisition. There are two reticle options: the Flexchange 4A-IF, with its illuminated 4A reticle switchable between Dot and Circle Dot; and the new D-I reticle, which has an illuminated Dot only, no cross hairs.
Subtensions of the Dot reticle at 100 yds are 1.2″ at 6x to 9.8″ at 0.75x. So, typically in a driven game situation, with the magnification set at 0.75, and a target crossing at, say around 30 yds, the Dot will cover about 3″. This, together with the fantastic range in illumination intensities, will offer maximum chance for an optimum shot.
Suggested UK retail prices are £1,930 with the D-I reticle, and £2,130 with the Flexchange 4A-IF.
Also announced is a new range-finding binocular. Well, a new colour that is…. An addition to the existing world-leading EL Range 8×42 and 10×42, we now have the EL O-Range:
So, if you stalk or hunt in a country where you need to wear orange, or are in the habit of misplacing your kit, this could be the binocular for you.
Prices are as for the ‘standard’ green EL Range: £2,530 for the 8×42, and £2,610 for the 10×42.
